FOUNDATION THE RIGHT choice of foundation for your skin type, applied properly can make your complexion look flawless, glowing and youthful. The most important part of your makeup regime should be your foundation. The real goal is to give the illusion of having healthy, beautiful skin. When you look in the mirror and see a clear, radiant skin looking back at you, you will feel more confident in your appearance and ready to start your day! CHOOSING THE RIGHT FOUNDATION You must take into consideration your skin type as not all foundation finishes are compatible with every type of skin. To find your perfect colour, choose three different colours and place them in strips on your jaw line. The one that is the right colour will blend with your skin tone. Choose another colour that is 2 shades lighter and this will become your highlighter / concealer colour – I will explain this in more detail in the makeup lesson section. FOUNDATION TYPES Stick Foundation is a creamy thicker foundation in stick form, that provides maximum coverage for imperfections, redness and uneven skin tones. It can be applied thicker in the areas that need it most and blends well with fingers or a damp sea sponge. Can also be used without setting with powder on dryer skin types.
Crème or Full Coverage Foundation is a thicker solid foundation in a disc form, it works really well with normal to oily skin providing a maximum coverage for all skin imperfections including pimples and scarring. It can be applied fine or thick to the skin and doubles as a concealer. Can be made sheerer by applying it with a damp sponge. It has long lasting qualities and blends well using fingers, sponges, or a brush. It can be quite drying to dry or mature skins though and can look a bit “caked on’ leaving the skin looking heavy and slightly dull.
Mousse Foundation is like a stick foundation that has been whipped. It usually is sold in a jar and has a lighter and sheerer consistency than stick form.Evens out the skin tone and gives a natural looking good coverage seeming to sink into the skin rather than sit on top of it. Doesn’t collect in fine lines like the crème foundations.
Liquid Foundation has a lighter consistency than stick or crème and has a fine coverage. Not suitable for humid / warm climates as it sweats off too easily. Is available in bottles or tubes and comes in many different formulations from oil free and oil absorbing formulas to moisturising , anti aging and light diffusing. It gives varying degrees of coverage from sheer to medium depending on the brand.
Powder Foundation is a dual finish powder and foundation in one. Presented in compact form it can often be used wet or dry.Quick and simple to use. Used dry it goes on like a pressed powder but gives colour and more coverage. Used with a damp sponge it can give even thicker coverage. Great for oily skin as it has very little oil in it and tends to absorb the oil on the skin settling into a beautiful soft matte finish. Great for touch ups and for those who live in humid climates as it tends to stay on the skin much longer than a liquid.
Tinted Moisturiser is actually a moisturiser with a little colour added.Comes in tubes or bottles. Great for young and flawless skins as it only provides very minimal coverage. Great first foundation for young girls.
Mineral powder is simply a loose powder that contains vitamins and minerals to help treat the skin.Presented in a shaker bottle with brush, the product has to be molded into the skin using a circular brush motion. Is fairly easy to apply but wears off quickly and can sometimes gather in fine lines.
